Pivot Counselling Can Help!
With 30 years of counselling in acute medical and high-pressure settings and 20 years of leading clinical organizations and programs, Johann Kong has the insight and knowledge to support you and your family to become healthier and stronger.

Child and Adolescent Problems are complex problems that require specializations and experience.

Our therapies include cognitive (CBT) and tool-based services (DBT) that are grounded in getting some to a different state of emotional wellness (EFT).  Our practice is trauma informed, strengths based and solution focused and can apply a myriad of other approaches to suite the person and circumstances.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is about making behavioural changes through talk therapy. Psychotherapy digs down to find the place inside you where we can help you to ease the pain, gain a sense of hope, and get you unstuck.

Pivot Counselling uses primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors – that our thoughts influence our emotions and actions.

Other therapies include: Mindfulness, Solution-Focused, Psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Meaning Centered Work.

The therapy used will focus on where you need help — to find relief and get to where you want to be.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

Working with Child and Adolescent issues is more complex and nuanced than working with adults. There is surprisingly much more fragility and results are difficult to measure (Remember those hormones and the naivety of your youth?).

Pivot Counselling staff are experienced in working with families and children. This comes with our extensive work in medical settings, hospitals, schools, and community treatment agencies.

Working with children and adolescents often requires a team setting and a collaborative framework. This takes time and knowledge to ensure that everyone is working together to grow your child to a healthy person.

Pivot Counselling staff members recognize that these complexities need time and coordination. We keep all of the puzzle pieces in play as each one plays an important role in reaching the treatment goals.

Family Mental Health Services

A key area of specialization at Pivot Counselling is in working with children and adolescents. Oftentimes understanding the family dynamics is a key cornerstone to building pathways to connect a parent to a child.  A child might be struggling because something stronger is missing within the family dynamic – a need to optimize relationships in the family.

When a parent is feeling resentful towards their child, this requires delicate work.  Family and Parental Counselling is an opportunity to refine ways to improve relationships and develop common goals and visions.  There are no instructions on how to parent!  Sometimes parents need someone to check their assumptions and ensure that everyone is working towards building healthy family goals and partnerships.

“Johann works so patiently with kids and parents on (psychiatry unit). His experience has helped our client give them hope in their times of desperation. I’m so glad Johann’s been a part of the team for so long.”
